Privacy
Table Read is a daily film puzzle, made independently in the UK. You can play without an account, and most of this page is about what changes if you make one.
Playing without an account
- Your game, your streak and your stats are saved in your browser, on your device. They aren't sent to us.
- We count what happens in the game as daily totals, such as how many puzzles were finished today. The totals never say who did what, and counting them uses no cookies and keeps no IP address.
- If you search for a film we don't have, we keep the words you typed, so we know which films to add.
- If you send feedback, we keep what you wrote, which puzzle you were on, your browser and screen size, and your email address if you gave it, so we can reply.
- Like most websites, the server keeps a log of each request: the IP address, the page and the browser. It keeps that log for 14 days, to deal with faults and abuse.
If you make an account
An account is there to keep your streak and stats on every device you sign in on. We keep:
- your email address;
- if you sign in with Google, the ID Google gives your account. We don't ask Google for your name or photo, and we keep nothing that could act on your Google account;
- the puzzles you finish: the day, whether you solved it, your guesses, your time, your row of squares and the film you finished on;
- when you signed in on each device. We don't record your IP address or browser against your account.
The only emails we send are the sign-in codes you ask for, and we never sell your details.
Your account is kept on our own server in the UK.
How long we keep it
- A sign-in code works for five minutes.
- You stay signed in on a device for a year after you last played on it, or until you sign out.
- Everything else stays until you delete your account, which you can do on the account page at any time. It goes from the game at once, and from our backups when they next run, which is nightly.
Cookies
Without an account the game sets no cookies; it saves your game in your browser's storage. If you sign in, we set cookies that keep you signed in, and short-lived ones while you sign in. They're needed for signing in to work, so we don't ask about them. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Use the Feedback button at the foot of the game and include your email address so we can reply. If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
